Snowflake challenge Day 5 : In your own space, share something non-fannish you are passionate about with your fannish friends.

Ok so this post is so late that everyone has moved on and no one cares about day 5 BUT, in my defence, snowflakes are a way of life where I live right now, and I've got like 2 more months of snow to put up with. So I have to make the challenge last.

Photographic evidence : oh god, the snow
That was my campus last Friday. It was pretty at first. Sorry about the bad photo

ANYWAY, a thing I am passionate about. The first Brahms piano quartet.

Last week, I accidentally wrote it a love letter. In a cafeteria. Like you do. Here's a transcript :

Dear Brahms piano quartet,

As many have commented before me, you are a gushing spring of romantic sensibility in a classical structure cage. You are a frantic, desperate whirlwind of apparent contradictions in time signatures and movement forms, all with inescapably logical explanations.

OR MAYBE NOT? Maybe you are the 18th century, forced to adapt. Maybe you are a quartet being pulled and prodded and stretched. Maybe you are pulling back with all your might, to keep from being distorted. Maybe you are too powerful to lose your basic shape and your basic rules, but all the rest of you is hurtling into the mid-19th century. Maybe you are the classical form, finally yielding to the logic of the situation.

You are so epic, Schoenberg wrote a fanwork of you [see below]. I _love_ you. I love you so much, so helplessly, so viscerally, I'm not even sad not to play music anymore when I listen to you. Hell, I can't even believe you're real.

Yours,
-mf

Snow is very pretty! It's when it transitions to ice that I start having problems.

Oooh, the Brahms sounds lovely. I like slightly later works, like Elgar and Schubert, but it's so light I could play it while studying or reading with no problems!

I've been a little depressed about the whole SOPA/PIPA/ACTA/MU thing, and it's nice to see you still doing fannish stuff, makes me feel better! :D

Ugh, I'm being a bit of an ostrich re : the whole SOPA thing. I should wake up and acknowledge the horrible, no good, real world, shouldn't I?

I'm glad you like the Brahms! <3
